great bustards on Salisbury Plain

On the way back from shooting a Taunton wedding, I was lucky enough to be able to stop by the great bustard reintroduction project where I met a friend who is involved with these birds and he took me on military land so I could finally tick great bustards on Salisbury Plain! Although I’ve photographed these huge birds in Spain, I never thought I get to photograph them in the UK! Have a wander over to the bustard website for updates and visiting times –  www,greatbustard.org

Yorkshire Dales Landscape Photographer: Pen-y-ghent

This is a shot from a while ago, but I’m just cataloging a load of old work and at the sane time reprocessing the images where necessary. It’s amazing how much I’ve learned over the years about how to get the best out of the raw data file and some of the images I edited, just a couple of years ago even, are so much better when I’ve revisited them. This shot is from a sequence I did one snowy December afternoon up in Ribblesdale as a Yorkshire dales landscape photographer. As the sun went low in the sky, the snow laden clouds were glowing and the unmistakable shape Pen-y-ghent was bathed in golden light.

Wakefield Landscape Photographer: Bretton Country Park

Beautiful autumn light in the mornings just now. Definitely the time to get out and about with the camera to capture some of the beautiful tones and colours that the autumn has to offer. The first signs of frost too, it’s been reasonably mild these past few weeks but now there’s a real crispness to the mornings. This shot is taken from Woolley Edge looking across to Bretton Country Park (aka Yorkshire Scultpture Park).Bretton Country Park

Autumn sunshine, blackberries and comma butterflies

A fabulous warm autumn day today and I was stuck doing commercial edits! I managed to have 10 minutes with about half a dozen comma butterflies as they basked in the sunshine in between getting boozy on blackberry juice. I only had the X-Pro 1 to hand and couldn’t really get close enough for a decent shot due to focus limitations. If only I’d had the D4 and 200mm micro Nikkor with me! Anyway, here’s one to be going on with and I’d go back to this spot again but the weather forecast is for a big change with wind, cool temperatures and heavy rain for the next few days :¬\
